Strengthen your college application, while learning critical patient & disease assessment skills!

CVHS offers a concurrent enrollment course in partnership with College of the Desert. Students interested in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), nursing, or eventually medicine are prime candidates for this course, which is also a prerequisite for EMT / Paramedic school. Students earn 3 college credits, Emergency Medical Responder & Public Safety First-Aid certificates.

Course is spread out over 2 semesters, and is only 1 hr. on Mon & Wed 2-3pm (8/30-12/15/2021) for fall semester. Spring semester will be announced in Nov/Dec 2021.

Application Process Summary

*CCC application and COD application are separate. Complete CCC app 1st.

1. Follow the instructions on Concurrent Enrollment checklist.

2. Complete CCCA (CA Community College application) online application. *When you arrive at the request for Social Security number, students do NOT need Social Security #.

3A. Using CCCA provided ID#, apply to COD. The instructions are listed in the checklist and the CCCA.

3B. You will then return to complete the COD application.

4. Complete the Concurrent Enrollment Authorization & Registration

5. Register for the EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) course. The course title is EMR 80A, course code is 4644 with Instructor Moore, S. The course information is located in Fall 2021 Class Schedule on page 51 (physical page 49, but when displayed online, the scrolled page is page 51).

*In order to maintain the rigor of this medical course, while increasing student success, this EMR course is divided into 2 sections Fall & Spring: EMR 80A Fall semester, & 80B Spring semester. This accommodates the student’s schedule, as well as spreads the content over a longer period of time, as opposed to complicated information is shorter period.
